William Lester Sharp, 84, of Du Quoin, passed away at 10:58 p.m., Sunday, July 27, 2008 at the Marshall Browning Hospital in Du Quoin.
William had been a truck driver for the Du Quoin Packing Company for36 years and had worked in maintenance at SIU for 17 years.
He was a member of the St. John's United Church of Christ in Du Quoin and a member of the Independent Order of Oddfellows and a former member of the Du Quoin Eagles. Bill was a member of the Du Quoin American Legion and the Du Quoin VFW. He was a US Army veteran of W.W. II.
He was born September 15, 1923 at Du Quoin, the son of Charles and Frances (Murphy) Sharp.
He married Lorene E. Harsy on November 10, 1957 at Hernando, Miss and she survives.
He is survived by his wife of Du Quoin, children- Darrel C. Coffel of Kankakee, and Roberta McClanahan of Du Quoin, sister- Arvilla Daum of Marion, fourteen grandchildren, several great grandchildren, several great great grandchildren, one nephew and two nieces.
He was preceded in death by his parents, two children- Emma Lou Cadle and Eloise Henson, one sister- Devona Radake and one brother- Raymond Sharp.
Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, July 30, 2008 at the Searby Funeral Home in Du Quoin with Rev. Joe Wagner officiating.
Friends may call from 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at the Searby Funeral Home in Du Quoin.
Burial will be in the Sunset Memorial Park at Du Quoin.
Military graveside rites will be conducted by the Du Quoin VFW and American Legion.
